If that trip to the Caribbean didn’t pan out this year, or if it did and you want to experience the culture of the islands again, then clear some time on your schedule this weekend. The DC Caribbean Carnival will liven up the town with a spectacular parade (it’s official name, the 18th Annual DC Carnival Extravaganza, says it all) through the city, then an international marketplace—De Savannah—at Banneker Park, with live performances, island cuisine, arts, crafts, and more. The parade begins at 11am on Saturday, proceeding down Georgia Avenue to the park in SW. The rest of the festival runs from 12 – 7pm at the park. The celebration continues on Sunday from 12 – 7pm. The parade is free, but admission to the events at the park is $10.
