Kids in a Candy Store

Camp has never been such a treat—literally. The Sugar Cube, a popular confectionery in Old Town Alexandria, recently announced they are starting a Candy Camp. They will be offering activities and classes for kids that are all centered around—you guessed it—candy. And right about now you’re probably picturing your kids sitting in a tub of chocolate, stuffing their faces with all kinds of gooey, delectable sweets, completely unaware of the rest of the world.

Well, rest your fears; it’s not like that. While there will be some sampling, it will come as a reward after learning about candy, making candy, and celebrating candy (kids have it so hard these days). So, it’s not soccer or science camp, but how often does your kid bring you truffles after a day of practicing passing drills?

The camp actually begins tomorrow morning, July 27, but registration for that class is closed. Here is the rest of the camp schedule, followed by details on how to sign up your child:

Molded Chocolate Lollipops
When: Thursday, July 29th
Time: 9am-11am
Who: Kids ages 5-8 years.
Description: In this interactive session, kids will have fun layering milk and colorful white chocolates to create whimsical molded chocolate pops. They will then enjoy packaging them up just like the pros do with cello, personalized stickers, and ribbon.
Cost: $20 per child plus a $15 materials fee.

Sweet Cinema: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory Screening
When: Tuesday, August 3rd
Time: 9am-11am
Who: Ages 4+ years
Description: Join us for a screening of the original version of this chocolate-lover’s classic. Kids are invited to decorate their own Wonka top hats and will get to take home a goody bag of Wonka-inspired sweets. We ask that each child please bring a blanket, mat, or cushion for more comfortable viewing. Parents are welcome to accompany their children for free.
Cost: $10 per child.

Chocolate Dipped Pretzels
When: Thursday, August 5th
Time: 9am-11am
Who: Kids ages 4-7 years.
Description: Young choco-holics will have fun dipping pretzel rods, decorating them with sprinkles and other fun topping, and packaging them in personalized bags.
Cost: $20 per child plus a $15 materials fee.

Minimum enrollment for any chocolate-making class is four and the maximum is eight. The maximum number that can attend the movie screening is 15.  To reserve a space for your child(ren) at any of our kid camp events, please call 703-548-2868 or email info@sugarcubesweets.com. Reservations must be received no later than 48 hours in advance of the activity. In the event of cancellation, payment will be refunded in full and you will be notified in advance of your activity.

  1. Hmm it looks like your website ate my first comment (it was super
long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any recommendations for rookie blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.
