The World of Dance in DC

Dance and world culture are coming together for a three-day celebration this weekend.  From August 20-22, the 7th Annual Dance DC Festival: Experience Global Movement will bring international traditions to the  Atlas Performing Arts Center in the form of tap, tango, hand dancing, drumming, hip hop, swing,  and more.

The event kicks off tomorrow at 6pm with Carnaval Africana!, capturing the essence of Carnaval fusing an array Afro-Brazillian dance and music expressions.  The festivities continue through Saturday and Sunday with exhibitions and activities for all ages.   KidsFest will explore African dance and music traditions through storytelling, music and movement. Dance Asia 2010 will showcase dance traditions from the Asian cultures.  Grufolpawa will highlight Panamanian dance.  And the festival will end with DC’s native tradition, Hand DanceMania.  Of course, there is plenty more among all of that, so be sure to check out the schedule here (scroll down for link to PDF ).

The Atlas Performing Arts Center is located at 1333 H Street NE.  All performances as well as interactive workshops are FREE to the public.
