How about an interactive history lesson and a day of fun all rolled into one? George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens is hosting it’s annual Colonial Market & Fair this weekend, September 18-19, recreating life in 18th-century America with festivities that the whole family will enjoy.
Watch artisans and craftspeople from all over the country demonstrate early techniques of their crafts. Their wares could become your souvenirs–baskets, woodcarvings, tin and ironwork, leatherworkings, weavings, paper cuttings, furniture, and much more will be among the market inventory.
The live entertainment will be straight out of colonial times as well. Music, puppet shows, a sword swallower, a fire eater, and a miracle medicine man will be part of the theatrics taking place throughout the day.
Admission to the Colonial Market & Fair is included in the entrance fee to the Estate: $15/adults, $7/kids 6-11, children 5 and under are free. Food will be available at extra cost. For more information and the full performance schedule, visit the Mount Vernon website.
