Strides for Success

Lace up those running shoes!  The Junior League of Northern Virginia is hosting it’s 6th annual Strides For Success 5K Run and Children’s 1K Fun Run/Walk to be held at Fairfax Corner Shopping Center on Sunday, April 10.

Proceeds raised from the race will benefit children’s community programs that the League supports.  Some of their current projects include:

  • The Children’s Science Center, a signature project partnership to create a hands-on science and technology children’s museum in Northern Virginia
  • Kids Can and My Life Shelter Programs , a program that empowers children in area shelters through educational and behavioral learning
  • Kids In The Kitchen, a national educational and advocacy program combating childhood obesity
  • School Readiness , a program that provides health fairs and school supplies for Northern Virginia uninsured children

The Strides for Success 5K begins at 8:30am, and the 1K starts at 8:45am.   This is a family-friendly event targeting novice to advanced-level runners with prizes for top male and female finishers in numerous age groups, completion prizes for all children, refreshments, T-shirts, goodie bags, and children’s entertainment. Strollers are permitted in the race, but no dogs are allowed.

Register online through April 8.  Advance registration is $30 for the 5K race until April 5 and increases to $35 after that date. Adult registration for the 1K is $20.
