LeashLocket: An Extra Convenience for Families with Dogs

It might seem a bit odd that I’m posting about a product for a dog when my blog is about recreation for kids. Well, here’s the full disclosure: A friend of mine, who is handling media for the product, asked if I might test it out and do a write-up.  As she pointed out, many of my readers might have dogs and would be interested.  I figured, why not?

LeashLocket is a retractable leash that is all about convenience.  It’s a small device that snaps securely onto a dog’s collar with a magnetic attachment, so the leash is always there when you’re ready to take Fido out for a walk or you need quick access to him. The locket weighs just a few ounces and fits snugly against a dog’s collar, so it’s not irritating to its wearer. And the leash extends to nearly six feet with a break button on it that stops at any length. It comes in two sizes, the small size designed for dogs up to 55 pounds and the large for dogs up to 90 pounds.

So, here’s more disclosure: I don’t have a dog.  I thought I would borrow a friend’s dog to test the LeashLocket out, but I quickly realized this was a product that needed to be used over time to really get a feel for how it worked, so my friend used it on her dog for several weeks then reported back to me on her experience.  What she liked best about LeashLocket was being able to get out of the house when she was rushing with her kids; she didn’t have to find the dog’s leash, nor did she have to hold onto it and steer both her kids and dog through the tight doorway. Her dog could walk out on his own, then she could grab the leash when it was easier. She also found it quite convenient at the playground — she could let her dog run nearby while the kids played, the leash neatly contained in his collar and easy to access when she needed to. She did note that the accompanying pamphlet stressed caution around kids and strollers, as with any leash.

As a parent, I appreciate products that add convenience to my life. And it sounds like LeashLocket does just that.  You can read more about LeashLocket and see photos on the website. You can also purchase one in red, blue, pink, or black for $24.99.

You can also enter for a chance to win one for a small dog (up to 55 lbs.) by simply leaving a comment below.  A winner will be drawn at random and announced early next week.

I would love one! It would make things much easier, having 2 dogs, a 3 yr old and a 3 mo old rushing out the door for a walk.

Looks really convenient to have. Judging by the picture, I’m thinking that one end can be hooked to the house keys – another convenience when walking the dog.
