Scooter races in the house during yesterday's big storm
Hope everyone weathered Hurricane Sandy okay and got through the storm with power, trees, and sanity intact. It seems the damage in DC was much less severe than anticipated, and after seeing news reports of what New York and New Jersey endured, I’m feeling rather grateful right now.
So, after a long day indoors yesterday, many of you have probably exhausted your at-home activities with the kids. And while many go-tos around town are closed today, there are a few places open where you can keep the munchkins entertained. Here’s what I’ve confirmed so far:
- Both Playseum locations, in Capitol Hill and Bethesda, are open and welcoming guests. Admission is $6/person.
- Barnes & Noble stores are great places for kids to play. Most have children’s sections that include train tables, toys and a small stage, not to mention all the books to read. It looks like most in the area will open at 12pm today, but I recommend calling ahead to your local store to be sure they are on that schedule.
- The International Spy Museum will open with limited operations at 12pm. We just visited last week – read about it here.
- Take the kids out for a fun and yummy lunch. Both Pizza Paradiso locations will open at 2pm. And Old Glory in Georgetown, H & Pizza and The Argonaut on H Street, and American City Diner in Chevy Chase are a few local family faves that are open today.
- As of now, it seems that most area movie theaters will be closed, but I recommend checking on your local theater later to see if they revise that.
Do you know of any other places for kids that are open today? Or have some other fun ideas? If so, please share in the comments!
