Go Big this Sunday as Sumo-Sized Fun Comes to Shaw

I always aim to keep readers in the know about unique events to experience with kids in DC, and this one fits the bill — in a very heavy way.

This Sunday, April 3, The Shay and Atlantic Plumbing, mixed-use retail and residential projects in North End Shaw, are celebrating cherry blossom season by welcoming three world sumo wrestling champions — Yama, Byamba, and Takeshi — for Sumo-Sized Sunday.

Open to the public, Sumo-Sized Sunday will offer attendees the chance to not only watch these world-renowned wrestlers engage in some friendly competition, but also try their hand at taking down one of the classically trained fighters.

And you won’t just be seeing some of the best sumo wrestlers in the world; at 600 lbs, Yama also holds the title for heaviest Japanese human being…ever!

This will all go down 11am – 2pm in the lot adjacent to 945 Florida Ave NW. Be sure to have your camera ready — photo opportunities will be available for those looking for a fun keepsake. This is a free event.

The post says it is on April 23 but it is actually April 3. This should be a great event. Is there metro or parking nearby?

Typo, Danielle (a bad one, oops!). It is, indeed, this Sunday as the title says. There should be street parking nearby.
