Monday – Discover American Indian culture with all kinds of hands-on pursuits at imagiNATIONS, the family activity center at the National Museum of the American Indian. Weave a big basket, play in a teepee and models of native dwellings, do some arts & crafts, hear bird calls of the wild, read kids books in the library, and much more. Museum hours are 10am – 5:30p. Admission is free.
Tuesday – If weather permits, visit the animals at Old Maryland Farm, part of Watkins Regional Park’s bevy of attractions. In the case of rain, take shelter at Watkins Nature Center, where you can see birds, reptiles, and other creatures that inhabit the surrounding area. The Farm is open 9am – 4pm, the Nature Center 8:30am – 5pm. Admission is free to both.
Wednesday – Explore the world through a variety of interactive exhibits and pretend play at the National Children’s Museum. The experience takes guests from the home to the town to destinations around the globe. Hours are 10am – 5pm. Admission is $10.
Thursday – Rock out at the Air and Space Museum with Billy Kelly and the Blah Blah Blahs. The concert, part of Discovery Theater’s Jammin’ at the Smithsonian series, is recommended for ages 2-6. Showtimes are 10:15am and 11:30am (on Friday, too!). Tickets are $3-8 and can be purchased online — and they usually sell fast, so get yours soon!
Friday – Be among the first audiences to see Toyland at The Puppet Co. The opening shows of the production’s three-week run at the Glen Echo theatre take place at 10am and 11:30am. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.
