Take Me to the RiverFrontFest

If you haven’t been to the recently opened Yards Park yet, this weekend will be a great opportunity to check it out.  On Saturday, October 9, the 1st Annual RiverFrontFest will take place in the space adjacent to the brand new recreational site.   You can make it a two-in-one trip to the Capitol Riverfront area — enjoy the festivities of the inaugural neighborhood celebration and the fantastic attractions of the family-friendly park.

The festival runs from 11am – 7pm with plenty of activity and entertainment to make for a lively day.  Music and dance performances, art exhibits, a fashion show, skateboarding demos will be on view for guests.  Food and drinks will be available for purchase. A Kids Zone will include a moon bounce and slide, potato sack relay, obstacle courses, face painting, henna tattoos, hair braiding, and recycling art projects. Admission to the festival is $12/person, kids 12 and under are free.  Purchase your tickets online or at the entrance.  Proceeds from the event will support these local causes: Kids Set Sail, Living Classrooms, Earth Conservation Corps.

The exact location of RiverFrontFest will be Water Street SE between 3rd and 4th Streets SE, behind the Department of Transportation headquarters two blocks south of the Navy Yard Metro.

You won’t be able to miss the Yards Park right next door at 10 Water Street. Check out this review of the park for details on what your family can enjoy there.

ALERT- Riverfront Festival a complete rip off. $15 at the door. Nothing to see or do except filthy food vendors. No demos that were advertised. Barely any art vendors. Horrible. Not even worth the metro ride down here. What a shame.

  4. What a bummer, Al! It sounded like so much fun. I try not to post about events that I don’t think will deliver on a good time for families. I’m sorry this one didn’t work out.
